Albany, New York, Waterfront District Re-Development Master Plan Plan Proposal
This Proposal seeks to identify and fully exploit the development potential held by the air-rights above a super-highway, running on-grade along the Hudson Riverfront of the City of Albany. Despite all manner of ineffectual cosmetic efforts the highway effectively separates the city center from its historic, intimate link to the riverfront, while additionally rendering the margins along the river unpleasant due to noise and visual impacts. The Plan re-establishes sensitive and thoughtful links to the riverfront while extending the historic City frabric right to the edge of the river. It represents state-of-the-art place-healing urban design, incorporating structured parking as well as a mix of market-driven uses to potentially include retail, commercial and residential of diverse types.
